Christians Current Top 5 Picks
1.) “Containment Blues” by Anthony Gomes
Absolutely love this CD! Anthony Gomes is amazing, if you’ve ever heard him, buy this. If you haven’t heard of him, buy this! Any music fan will thoroughly enjoy Containment Blues, so lucky to have discovered Anthony by way of my father years ago when Jim Peterik produced his first album, he’s one of the best artists you will ever hear.
2.) “Bless Your Heart” by The Allman Betts Band
“Magnolia Road” is the tie-dyed contender for summer festival favorite. A semi-autobiographical lyric shared by Betts and Allman, ironically this is the only song on the album with band collaborator Stoll Vaughan as its sole author. Vaughan wrote the song alone, though namechecking detailed parts of Betts’ and Allman’s life, respectively. Musically evokes the group’s affection for The Band and the Grateful Dead.
3.) “The Blues is Alive and Well” by Buddy Guy
Rarely do I ever purchase a CD where all of the songs are good. This is the best music Buddy has put out in a long time. He is playing with some great musicians like Willie Weeks on bass, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards. If you like the sound of a B3 Hammond then you are in for a treat. The music has excellent production and sound quality. Overall it is a GREAT GREAT ALBUM!
4.) “Venom & Faith” by Larkin Poe
This is a CD that joins other artists CD’s this year that I have found have rekindled my captivation of new artists. Just when you think that the old school styles have been shunned by the new breed of recording artists, I managed to step into some intoxicating flow such as this highly recommended gem. I cannot wait to see these sisters literally take OVER THE WORLD!!! If you like a powerful female singer melded with stripped down up-tempo blues, this CD sizzles. Call it country, go ahead, but it’s really ballsy and bad ass.
5.) “The Ice Queen”–by Sue Foley
A multi-award-winner & the 2020 Blues Music Award WINNER Traditional Blues Female Artist (Koko Taylor Award)! The Ice Queen features a trio of legendary Texas guitar slingers — Jimmie Vaughan, Z.Z.Top’s Billy F Gibbons and Charlie Sexton — as well as a host of other Lone Star State all-stars. Produced by Mike Flanigin. Design and photography by Grammy award winning photographer Alan Messer.

1.) “Straight To You LIVE” by Kenny Wayne Shepherd
The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band will be releasing their first ever live concert video in 10 years this winter. ‘Straight To You: Live’ will be released on 27th November via Provogue. Their only other live output, the ’Live! In Chicago’ album was released a decade ago and got itself a Grammy nomination along the way, but this time around for 2020, you get to watch the band in its full glory as well as listen. In the last 10 years the multi-platinum selling Shepherd has gone from strength to strength, winning countless awards, releasing four studio albums and touring the world over several times – from Brazil to Europe, India to Canada and US to Australia and beyond. The band were only weeks into ‘The Traveler World Tour’ when the Covid-19 pandemic broke, and the world came to a standstill. The show took place at the famous Leverkusen Jazzstage for the iconic German TV show, Rockpalast on 25th November 2019. The seven-piece band took the stage and immediately launched into their most-recent hit-single ‘Woman Like You,’ with the honey-soaked powerhouse voice of Noah Hunt blasting “I ain’t looking for a one time girl” backed by the fiery fretwork of Shepherd. Taken from ‘The Traveler,’ it’s the first of four songs from the latest studio album, “‘Woman Like You’ is the perfect opening song for the show,“ Shepherd says. “You come out swinging, it sets the mood for the entire show. It’s like, we’re there to rock, and we mean business.”
