Champ Jaxon is a ten year old aspiring blues-rock musician based out of Southwest Florida. Champ was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 2010 and his family relocated back to Florida in 2013 when he was three years old. Shortly thereafter, in the Spring of 2014, Champ attended the Wanee Music Festival, seeing the Allman Brothers Band on their farewell tour, which ignited the fire that has fueled his passion for music ever since.
Champ began studying the guitar around age six, although he had a ukulele he’d been banging around with prior to that. His father taught him a few basics to get going and he currently receives weekly guitar and vocal instruction at the Rock Box Music School in North Port, FL. He also takes remote lessons from Scott Sharrard, newest member of Little Feat and formerly of the late Gregg Allman’s solo band. Champ’s debut performance came when sang one song at a youth talent showcase in May 2018 at age seven. That was followed by a handful of local open mic appearances, which led to his first featured gig at Big Storm Brewing in Cape Coral, FL in March of 2019 at age eight.
Since then, Champ has appeared in over 60 paid performances at various venues throughout Southwest Florida, including opening the 2019 Big Orange Music Festival, where he shared the stage with Blackberry Smoke and The Allman Betts Band, among others. Recently he sat in with the Allman Betts Band, was called up on stage by blues legend Eric Gales., and played “Can’t You See” with the Marshall Tucker Band.
The Champ Jaxon Band currently has dates booked in Macon, GA, Asheville, NC and Nashville, TN this June and will be recording their debut album this summer at Farmadelica Sound Studios.
Champ plays a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Special and a 2018 Gibson SG Standard through a Fender Blues Junior IV Humboldt Edition Amplifier and uses D’Addario strings and picks. He is also a proud member of the Lone Hawk Hat family, which includes the likes of Sheryl Crow, Chris Robinson, Charlie Starr, Marcus King, and other esteemed entertainers.
Champ’s band mates include his father, Nate Winkler on rhythm guitar and backup vocals, Brent Adam on drums and Nick Rosado on bass guitar.
